What is Spiritual Fitness ?
Like another fitness aspect that we more easily understand, physical fitness, spiritual fitness requires a genuine effort and a type of exercise.
And what is the aim or goal ?
Again, to compare, fitness describes our ability to function well and benefit in an ongoing way from these efforts made in the aspect considered.
The benefit of spiritual fitness is inner happiness, an ability to easily withstand the daily stress and pressures of living without abandoning our values and goals in life.
So, then, it might be said that the goal of spiritual fitness is to build our inner self, our vision of who we are, and our ability to be consistent representing that vision in our lives.
(see spiritual vs. religious discussion)
To be True to Ourselves and our Faith is to be "Spiritually Fit !
What is to be our own guiding principle ?;
or, What is the nature of the God we worship ? .....
This is the question that must first be answered !
After we have this answer clearly in our mind we have a real chance to live a life true to that nature.
This not only will provide us with a strong sense of inner peace, but will help to focus all of our daily and yearly goals, aspirations and activities.
Seeing then that; At the end of our lives;
We are NOT looking back and regretfully asking:
"Why did we live our life in the way we did ?"
Spiritual Fitness should not proclaim what these answers are,
but only that once we have answered them, we live true to them.
The exercises required will vary significantly
dependent upon the answer to our own "prime directive",
but they will assuredly require a substantial amount of self-discipline.
